British Premier League - Sunday May 8th Horspath 107 Poole 72
With the Poole side restricted by meetings elsewhere they tracked a mostly young side at Horspath, the home side had a late withdrawal from Shaun Rudman and Steve Harris away in the Polish League plus two other riders unavailable choosing to use British U10 Champion George Horsley for a ride, a decision that didn't go down that well with the visitors, it has to be said. Combination Hammers took three points from the Combination match but paid a heavy price with a bad knee injury to popular and vital member of various Hammers line ups Mike Burgess in the 7th after he was bought down by Matt Mildon who was excluded, by then Hammers were six points up in the actual meeting. Dean Hook was superb for Poole who went on to loose by 10 before the 9 penalty points were added. Hammers had a solid scoring throughout led well by Matt Coulter and Wayne Clarke with a good showing from Jordan Richardson. However with vital regional meetings, combination matches and the Vets team, not to mention his own Euro Vets racing in the coming weeks Hammers will face an anxious wait on the news from the current over 50 British Champion Burgess

South and South Wales League - Monday May 2nd Horspath 90 Swindon 90
Swindon played host to their nearest and dearest rivals Horspath on a very warm Bank Holiday Monday. Although the track was watered for three hours prior to the match, the riders entertained a healthy size crowd in the difficult dry conditions. The match started with three drawn heats then Swindon managed to get a maximum 7-3 heat advantage through the pairing of Andy Hill and captain Rob Hunt. Swindon's joy was very short lived as Horspath hit straight back with their own 7-3 with some fine team riding from Steve Harris to get his young partner Jake Neighbour through to take the race win, Swindon were soon celebrating again as the pairing of Daniel Harper and Daniel Sinclair rode well together as a pairing to get another 7-3 to put there team four points up. The flurry of heat advantages continued in heat seven when Horspath's reliable Szymczak raced away for the win with his partner getting the all important third place to reduce Swindon's lead to just two points. Heat eight was a drawn heat then Swindon finished off a very good first half performance with another 7-3 heat advantage from the pairing of Andy Hill and Daniel Harper to go into the interval six points up. Heat 10 was a controversial heat which was re-run three times. It ended up with Horspath getting a 6-4. Both teams had a valid arguments on the opposing riders being excluded in the race. The next six heats were all drawn as Swindon tried to maintain their four point lead to close out the match but in heat 17 Horspath struck a big blow as they managed to pick up a 7-3 to make the match all square going into the last heat. Swindon were off the favoured inside grids and had their number one Shaun Rudman out in the race and Horspath had former Swindon rider Steve Harris. It was all set up for a big finish, this was until the tapes went up, both teams settled for 5-5 which meant the match ended all square. Well controlled by referee Colin Simmons who let teams get on with the racing despite 4 exclusions to both sides, on what became a tricky surface due to the warm windy conditions. Gate exclusions to firstly Lukasz Nowacki and then Lewis Osborne saw Chris Timms mark his Hammers debut with a win over Mark Newey. Phil Howells / Adam Peck struck a 6-4 to put Leicester one up. Mark Boaler took the flag in a drawn heat 3, A second gate exclusion for Lewis Osborne saw Adam Stephenson / Mark Newey take the full 7-2 advantage and a six point gap to the visitors. Chris Timms took a drawn heat 5 with Lukasz Nowacki getting the better of a bustling duel with Shaun Rudman for third. Leicester got a 6-3 in the penultimate race following a Chris Osborne legging exclusion via Howells / Stephenson. An all action last race saw Heard / Boaler overturning a maximum reverse to a 7-2 win with Nowacki coming down not finishing. Combination A very strong Leicester line up boasting Nicky Whitehead, Mick Skinner, Kevin Burns and Carl Jarvis had too much power for the defending combo champs for whom Zac Payne rode very well with his main support coming from Matt Coulter and Wayne Clarke.
